Your other devices send their web traffic to the iPhone over Wi-Fi. The iPhone sends it on through its own connection.

What it does

VPN Share runs a small HTTP proxy on your iPhone. Other devices on the same Wi-Fi, such as a Mac, a Windows PC, an iPad, an Android device or another iPhone, use the iPhone as their proxy. Their web traffic then goes out through the iPhone's internet connection, including any VPN app that is active on the iPhone.

It's useful when you have a VPN app on your phone but another device can't or shouldn't run its own VPN app. For example, the device may have no app for your VPN, or you may not be able to install software on it.

VPN Share is not a VPN. It doesn't include VPN servers. It shares whatever connection your iPhone has, and works alongside the VPN app you already use.

How it works

  1. Connect your iPhone

    Join your Wi-Fi network and connect the VPN app you already use.

  2. Start sharing

    Open VPN Share and tap Start sharing. The app shows the address your other devices need.

  3. Set the proxy on your devices

    In each device's Wi-Fi proxy settings, enter the Automatic URL or the Manual server and port. See where.

Features

  • Two setup modes

    Automatic: enter one URL, such as http://192.168.1.25:8080/proxy.pac. When sharing stops, devices quietly go back to their normal connection.
    Manual: enter a server and port. When sharing stops, devices lose internet on that Wi-Fi, so you always know.

  • Optional password

    Require a username and password to use the proxy. Browsers ask for them once.

  • See where traffic exits

    Shows whether a VPN is active on the iPhone, and the public IP address and country your traffic exits from.

  • Connected devices

    See which devices are using the proxy and how much traffic each one has used.

  • Choose the port

    Uses port 8080 by default. You can change it in Settings.

  • Siri and Shortcuts

    Start or stop sharing with Siri, or add the "Start sharing" and "Stop sharing" actions to your shortcuts.

  • Local network only

    Only accepts connections from local-network addresses. Devices outside your network can't use it.

  • English and French

    The app is available in English and French.

Good to know

  • Keep VPN Share open on screen while sharing. The screen stays on, so keep the phone charging.
  • Only traffic that follows the device's proxy settings goes through the iPhone. Browsers and most apps follow them. Some apps don't, and many TVs and games consoles have no proxy setting.
  • You're responsible for following the terms of the networks, VPN providers and services you use.
